About

Dr Gan graduated from the University of Melbourne medical school (M.B.,B.S.) in 1991 and gained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2001. He has been a consultant general surgeon in Warrnambool since 2002, with a particular focus on advanced laparoscopic “key-hole” surgery techniques across a broad range of sub-specialty operations.  His series of laparoscopic colorectal surgery was the first to be presented from regional Australia at an international conference.  The whole focus of these techniques has been to achieve as fast and painless a recovery as possible, with the least scarring. He has also invented medical devices to help achieve some of these results, with Patents granted internationally. This innovation has brought with it experience in pre-clinical and clinical research, publications and presentations across Australia, Asia, Europe and the USA.

Dr Gan is the Director of General Surgery at Southwest Healthcare and Affiliate Associate Professor at the Deakin University School of Medicine.
