Colorectal Surgery
Dr Gan introduced laparoscopic colorectal surgery to Warrnambool in 2005 and his cases were the first from an Australian regional centre to be presented at an international conference in 2008.
He has evolved his techniques from starting with “laparoscopic assisted”, where the removal and joining of the bowel is done through a larger incision in the middle of the abdomen (as many surgeons still do), to now doing highly advanced techniques where the entire cutting and joining of the bowel is done laparoscopically, and the removal of the bowel can be done through hidden scars, either above the pubic bone or even through the vagina! Dr Gan utilises reduced port, single port and even “hybrid transvaginal NOTES” techniques, and has published and presented internationally on these.
